Can Help...
Valley Braille Service, Inc.
is a non-profit, 501 (c) 3 corporation (pending) dedicated to the production and
distribution of the highest quality, most accurate Braille
textbooks available anywhere in the world.
Our main
goal is to increase the
availability of Braille educational materials to blind
children and adults across the country and, although
challenging, to reduce the costs of high quality Braille
materials to the visually impaired to ensure that blind
adults and children have the materials they need to live a
fuller life, regardless of financial status.
Valley
Braille has nearly doubled in size each and every year since
our inception 6 years ago, allowing that dream to come true.
Each year more and more blind and visually impaired children
and adults have books, both to enrich their lives, and to
complete institutional curriculum so that nothing stands in
the way of higher learning. Braille empowers the blind and visually
impaired to refuse to accept societal and institutional
boundaries.
Access to the general education curriculum
is vital to all students and when textbooks arrive late or
not at all, students with visual impairments miss out on
educational opportunities. This is a national issue with
complex fiscal, technological and political implications.
People
who are blind or otherwise visually impaired need to gain access to Braille materials.
With
the assistance of Braille materials such as maps, brochures,
directories, menus, etc., adults can function remarkably
well in the general population. This can make all the
difference in the world for a blind adult determined to
function independently, or for a blind child -- not only to
become literate, but to have the opportunity to realize his
or her full potential.
Braille
textbooks are consistently behind in availability, meaning
that, as hard as it is to believe, there are blind students
all over America falling behind their sighted classmates and
peers in gaining an education.
Neither
the Congressional "Americans with Disabilities
Act", nor the Presidential "No Child Left
Behind" mandate, provide for effective means of
providing the materials that disabled American children need
to have a competitive education and take their place in the
business and social mainstreams. Valley Braille Service,
Inc. is doing our best to make that important difference in
these lives and you can help.
A
charitable, tax-deductible contribution to Valley Braille
Service enables us to continue growing and producing
important Braille documents and much sought-after textbooks.
